The Youth Garden Recipe Contest is now Closed.
But, stay tuned! We'll be announcing the winners on April 1st. It's going to be a tough job choosing the winning recipes because you submitted fun, delicious and inspiring ways to get children excited about eating healthy by eating what they've grown. Thank you all for your dedication and passion!
*****************************************************
Because there's nothing better than eating what you've grown, we're calling all educators, parents and children to submit your favorite school and youth garden recipes.
Winning recipes will be published with recognition in an upcoming children's book by Anne Nagro, author of the nationally-acclaimed Our Generous Garden and Nuestra Huerta Generosa, and Dancing Rhinoceros Press.
Winners also will
Everyone who submits a recipe will be entered into a drawing to win a GloPanel 45® LED grow light by Sunshine Systems - Valued at $140!
The GloPanel 45® doesn't get hot to the touch, consumes less energy (a "green" lesson here) and never requires bulb replacement. It emits red, blue and white wavelengths to promote fast and vigorous growth (another science lesson!). You’ll never be disappointed with week, leggy seedlings again! This LED light covers a five-foot growing area and is a must-have for indoor or classroom growing! Learn More.
How to Submit Your Recipe
It's easy! Please download and complete this simple Word Doc form and email it with your recipe to learningbug@gardenabcs.com. Enter as many times as you like!
Recipes should be ones you've made at school, home, camp or after-school club, and are a hit with children. Recipes should feature fruits and vegetables common in most gardens and farmers markets. We'll accept any recipe but are looking in particular for those for snacks and evening meals, and ones children can take an active role in making.
Submit Recipes by March 1, 2010
Sorry for the tight deadline, but the release date for Anne's new book is early summer - just in time to share your recipes with children who are harvesting summer fruits and vegetables. We'll notify recipe and raffle winners April 1.
Anne's New Book - a Sneak Peak
Based on the popularity of Our Generous Garden / Nuestra Huerta Generosa, Anne’s further exploring nutrition in the garden and "eating what you know, eating what you grow" from a child's perspective. Healthy eating and gardens go hand-in-hand: Research shows children who plant and harvest their own fruits and vegetables are more likely to eat them. Publication date: summer 2010.
Please submit your recipe and spread the word to your friends and colleagues!
